Alpamayo Mountain Expedition 5947 Masl

Alpamayo Mountain with a height of 5,947 masl. located in the Peruvian Andes - Cordillera Blanca, is within the Huascarán National Park. It is considered the most beautiful mountain in the world since it was consecrated in a scenic photography contest organized by Alpinismus magazine in Munich in May 1966. Since then, it is the most well-known and sought-after mountain by mountaineers around the world. To climb this beautiful mountain, a few days of acclimation are recommended; it is also recommended to have experience in technical climbing, use technical equipment, and climb a 5,000-meter mountain to have adequate acclimation before starting the expedition.

Day 01. Huaraz (3100 masl) – Cashapampa – Llamacoral (3760 masl)

At 7:00 am. After breakfast at the hotel, we transfer you from Huaraz to Cashapampa 2,900 masl. Here, the muleteer staff with donkeys awaits us to transport the mountain equipment to the first camp of the expedition, Llamacoral 3,670 masl. The path takes us along the Yurakmayu River to the place where we will spend the night. The transport takes about 3 hours and the hike another 4 to 5 hours.

Day 02. Llamacoral (3760 masl) – Alpamayo Base Camp (4350 masl)

On the second day of the expedition, we have breakfast at 8:00 am. Then we depart from Llamacoral to Alpamayo Base Camp at 4,350m through the Santa Cruz valley, passing by the Jatuncocha lagoon. Then we enter the base camp through the Arhuaycocha ravine, arriving shortly at the Alpamayo base camp. Dinner and rest for the next day. The hike takes 5 to 6 hours.

Day 03. Base Camp (4350 masl) – High Camp (5450 masl)

Ascension day from the base camp to Alpamayo High Camp at 5,450m. After breakfast at the base camp, we depart around 8:00 am, going uphill for 3 hours to the glacier. After the glacier, another 3 to 4 hours to reach the high camp. The ascent takes between 6 to 7 hours; dinner and rest for the next day.

Day 04. High Camp (5450 masl) – Alpamayo Mountain Summit (5947 masl)

At 2:00 am, after having a hot drink, the climb to the summit of Alpamayo 5,947 masl begins. After a good day of climbing with 60°, 70°, 80°, and 90° wall inclination, you reach the summit, where you will have the reward of seeing a fascinating view of the Peruvian Andes. After having time to take photos and videos, we start rappelling 7 to 8 pitches. We finish descending the Ferrari route and arrive at the high camp for hot soup and rest. The day's expedition takes between 10 to 11 hours.

Day 05. High Camp (5450 masl) – Base Camp (4350 masl)

After breakfast at the high camp, we begin the descent to the base camp. In recent years, a rappel of 40 to 50 meters high is done, and then we pass the wall. We continue descending the glacier and moraine to the base camp. This day the descent takes between 06 to 07 hours.

Day 06. Base Camp (4350 masl) – Cashapampa (2900 masl) – Huaraz Hotel

Breakfast at 6:00 am at the base camp, then we start walking all downhill along the same path we came up until reaching the town of Cashapampa. Here the transport awaits us for the return transfer to the city of Huaraz.

We recommend making a reservation in advance to ensure a better price for you. Prices may vary according to the reservation date and the number of people. After we have reached an agreement on the total expedition price for each program we offer, you may book with a 40% deposit of the total agreed sum for the services.

This reservation will cover the following:

  1. Securing your spot for the scheduled date.
  2. Making transfer ticket reservations for Lima - Huaraz / Huaraz - Lima.
  3. Making hotel reservations for the scheduled dates of your arrival in Lima and Huaraz, according to the itinerary.
  4. Making reservations for guides, assistants, and/or staff for the scheduled date.

There are 02 rescue units in Huaraz
  1. National Police Rescue Squadron, based in the city of Yungay (very close to Huascarán mountain). Phone numbers: 043-493292 / 043-493333. They also have 02 helicopters available.
  2. Casa de Guías Rescue Unit, based in the city of Huaraz (Parque Ginebra s/n). The rescue cost must be budgeted beforehand, and if a helicopter is required, it will also be necessary to pay for the service in advance. Website: agmp.pe
